Accelerated Program

Characteristics of Giftedness

Jefferson's GATE/ACC Program

Jefferson has a Gifted and Talented Education (GATE)/Accelerated program.GATE/Accelerated teachers implement a rigorous and challenging instructional program for our GATE/ACC students.  Students in these sections receive differentiated instruction. GATE teachers receive 45 hours of certification in strategies that are useful for meeting the academic, social and emotional needs of gifted learners. Teachers implement these strategies into the core curriculum to challenge students to reach their full potential.

  • Maintain a quarterly grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 in core subjects: English, History, Math, and Science/Health
  • No F in any subject, no U in any subject

NOTE:  All placements may be reviewed each semester to ensure that each student is progressing in a manner consistent with his/her potential. Should the review reveal that a student is not making consistent progress; a conference to discuss interventions will be scheduled with parents, teachers, and an administrator. Failure to improve in academic standing may result in a change of placement.
